I’ve been called the Doctor of the Future and one of the top 10 most creative people in health care. I have a consulting firm called The Future Well. We’re an innovation consultancy for healthy products, brands, and businesses.

After completing a residency in pediatrics and one in preventive medicine at Johns Hopkins, I started a practice for my neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn in September 2007:

1. Patients would visit my website
2. See my Google calendar
3. Choose a time and input their symptoms
4. My iphone would alert me
5. I would make a house call
6. They’d pay me via paypal
7. We’d follow up by email, IM, videochat, or in person

This concept became Hello Health so other doctors could practice this way. Hello Health is a mixture of secure social network and electronic medical record that enables doctors and patients to connect both in their office and online via email, IM, and video chat.

I started my internet-based house call practice with $1500. My overhead was about 10%. I got a lot of press. This led to my partnership with Myca to create Hello Health.
