For the last 17 years I’ve been doing everything I can to fix primary care for as many people as possible. It’s time for me to launch a new company and a new chapter, Lucky Sage.

Think a 5 day IRL Masterclass with a hero who’s great at exactly what you want to be great at. You get to live with and learn from a person you’ve long admired. They’re people you’ve thought you’ll never get to meet, but, if you’re accepted, you get to go on “vacation” with them, become actual friends, and absorb their wisdom.

Conferences are way too big and online Masterclasses are too impersonal. Real inspiration and real relationships come from meaningful time spent together with talented, passionate people having great conversations around dinner tables and campfires— free from distractions of your everyday life. Weeks like that…they change your life.

With every startup, you start small, learn, and iterate. So, I’m the guinea pig. The first experience is with me here in Boulder November 6-10 for folks who want to learn all about service design and product in digital health. Applications are open until August 21st. Apply here.

To keep all Lucky Sage experiences as high quality as possible, attendees must apply and prove they’ve got exceptional talent. This isn’t like paying extra to meet your favorite band in the VIP lounge.

“Lucky Sage produces intimate events with legendary figures in the arts, health, and business. Our multi-day experiences bring together twelve skilled enthusiasts and one iconic figure for thoughtful conversations, delectable cuisine, inspiring venues, and healthy excursions in a charming town. Our mission is to foster genuine, real world relationships grounded in the realization that these legendary figures are, at heart, just like us—real people who inspire and encourage us to reach our own greatness.”

So who are these legendary figures in arts, business, and health? Think a person who, as an aspiring filmmaker yourself, made your favorite documentary ever. Or an insanely great product designer you’ve followed for years who wrote 2024’s best selling product book. Or a therapist who amassed 1.2M followers because her insights are smart and engaging and you want to learn how to scale your own practice to have that type of impact.

And why arts, business, and health? Because everything I’ve ever done has been a mashup of art, business, and health.

And where are these charming towns? Think Boulder and Ojai and Bozeman and Asheville and Taos and Sebastopol. They’re beautiful and inspiring. The food is exceptional. The spaces are architecturally significant. And it’s easy to be active and healthy.

And for a little background on why I’m doing this, well it’s two-fold.

First, I want to design experiences that inspire people. I didn’t really realize this over the last 17 years, but that’s what I’ve been doing in healthcare— redesigning how healthcare works so folks can say “that was the best healthcare experience I’ve ever had.” I’m taking those same principles of service design and hospitality and bringing them to IRL experiences.

Second, in January, I was accepted into a photography workshop in San Miguel de Allende hosted by Alec Soth, easily my favorite photographer alive today who has influenced my own work for the last two decades. Based on my portfolio, I was accepted, out of 650 applications, along with 11 other exceptional photographers. If you’ve admired someone from afar for so long and they’ve made such a huge impact on the thing you’re passionate about, it feels like you’ve won the lottery to not only meet them, but become friends with them. I want to give that same feeling to talented people and inspire them to be the greatest version of themselves.
